When it comes to chimpanzees, the fight to be on top is key for access to mates and food. Ferdinand, 24, who has been alpha male of his group at Gombe for eight years was recently challenged by none other than his Nephew, Fudge, 19. Fudge came out the victor and is now the new alpha male at Gombe.


Be sure to tune in to ‘Wild Animal Reunions’ on ITV this Wednesday (27 July) at 8.00pm, you will see resident vet, Rebeca Atencia, reunited with female chimpanzee Kudia. Rebeca was Kudia’s surrogate Mother for more than five years before Kudia was relocated to one of the beautiful islands on the Kouilou river, that are now part of the Tchimpounga Reserve. The question is will Kudia recognise Rebeca.

Position: Forestry engineer or related

Job Description: Forestry voluntary position. Forestry training in RNCD Dindefelo, south-east of Senegal. Natural resources management, study of NTFP extraction in the valley, soil loss prevention, project and document writing, forestry inventory, landscape restoration. Stakeholders conflict resolution among the population and the reserve.

Stay: Six months - one year
